I built you a rockery......again!

Its been 6 years since we said goodbye (for now) to Chris and as always at this time of the year I was wondering what I could do to mark the day in a way that makes me smile. It might seem strange that I'd want to encourage myself to smile on the anniversary of his leaving this world, but for me its important that on the darkest date of my life, I find something to smile about.

Some years ago I woke with one of those ideas that brink on the impossible! Its like a challenge that once you've thought about, you have to try. I wanted to build a rockery in a day and I decided to recruit the kids to help. It was boiling hot and we worked from dawn to dusk, stopping regularly for much food and drinks. Many times during the construction of the masterpiece I was convinced that they would get fed up, but no, they were full of enthusiasm and stuck it out until we completed the project. I often wonder whether they were humouring me, must ask our Natalie (my niece) when I next see her.

Anyway, I thought it might be nice to build one, seeing as though the installation of the cabin demolished the other one. I've had my wellies on through all that the British weather has chucked at us in the last three weeks and my final mission today was to find a water feature. Having looked in all the local garden centres we travelled miles to a large water garden place, only to find that it was now flats, very posh one's with veranda's! Not to be beaten I suggested we go a few more miles to a place we were at last week (where I forgot to look at the water features) and my hubby, being the patient person that he is (now and again) agreed.

After a large lunch we found the perfect addition to the rockery and personally I think it was worth the 60 mile round trip. Hubby was patiently smiley so I decided to let him pick one plant for the rockery. Amidst all the vibrant colours that will bloom over the next couple of months there now lurks a black, yes black viola. It will be a nice contrast he said, Oh yes I replied, thinking about how black the new compost is. I've sat it next to a white plant and to be honest it does work.

We've had the grand opening tonight. I know you can see it Chris and I also know exactly what you'll be saying " Its nowhere near as good as the one we made, in fact its rubbish"

Smiling!!!
