Knitting

I used to do loads of knitting when the boys were young and I always had them dressed in the same jumpers. Looking at an old photo of them the other day I noticed they were wearing one of my many creations, a yellowy gold cable sweater. On careful inspection it was obvious that the set in sleeves were a bit tight around the top of the arm, in fact there was clearly a danger that they might not have had much movement on the day they wore them. Then there was the jumper that I lovingly knitted for my hubby, which was very loooong and very warm. He wore it bless him, despite resembling an orang-utang.

Recently I have had occasion to pick up my needles once again but this time I decided to stick to little things that I could churn out by the dozen. How wrong I was! These weeny Christmas people take five minutes to knit and a week to sow up. They are so fiddley.

Whilst knitting away one night last week a friend's words came into my head, she said " I remember when I was losing the plot, I knitted snowmen day and night" Hmmmm!!

Kid's Church 2

How nervous was I this morning while gathering all my bits and pieces together to set the room up for our kid's church meeting. I wasn't leading the lesson alone though because I had my lovely sister sharing the teaching with me. To begin with the children were quiet, except the one's who had already been in a class with me while I was a helper. As they came into the room we welcomed them with big smiley faces and we got the odd nodd here and there.

We start the children's meeting exactly the same as the adults, with 20 minutes of worship songs, easy peasy! I love getting lost in song as I prepare to hear the word brought to us that day, it's relaxing and very uplifting. The songs for the children however are slightly different and a tad more energetic, due to the fact that children respond far more to the visual element. Ha! There was me with a dodgy hip and our Julie with an equally dodgy knee, but hey! we gave it 100% and more *grin* I will insert a link to a video at this point for anyone who's curious. This isn't us by the way, it's Hillsong Kids, but we adults try to follow the moves while the children manage to do it no problem.

The custard game was prehaps the worst idea of the day, the children loved finding every bit of food hidden in the large bowls filled to the brim but the carpet bore the brunt of it, and the chairs, and anything else within a hundred yards.

I won't go into the whole lesson but the message of the day was forgiveness and at the end of the session I had probably learned as much as the children had, which is good, because we always have room to learn a little bit more. The most heartwarming part of the day for me was the smiley faces as the children left with their parents.

I thank God for putting it on my heart to work with the children in our church and for giving me the courage and strength to once again move out of my comfort zone.

Kid's Church

I'm doing my first class tomorrow at Sunday School as a teacher and I'm nervous but excited. I love my blog, eventhough I don't post very often these days I can come here and record momentous events so I don't forget when I did new stuff.
